Attention
- If you've sent an e-mail to Susan requesting your finisher's certificate, and have not yet received it - would you please re-send your request to sksinclair@yahoo.com.   She has managed to lock herself out of her msn account, and is unable to retrieve those requests.  Or, you can always send it the old-fashioned way - via "snail mail".  Thanks a bunch.

See an interview with Marlin Keesler about his 50 states quest and his book Our Life on the Run. (interview)

Our love and sympathies go out to Beth Davenport on the passing of her brother.

I'm an editor with Runner's World magazine. I'm working on a story about "foot commuters" -- people who are getting to and from work by running. They might be doing it to add mileage to their training logs, or they might be doing it to save gas money. Whatever the reason, we'd like to know if any of the members of your organization are doing this. Would you be able to help me with this? All the best,
Katie Neitz  Katie.Neitz@rodale.com

I am writing to know if there are any members who might be interested in checking off HI by doing Honolulu this Dec.  I have a 2 bedroom condo which I was supposed to share with a few of the people I regularly run with, but they have backed out.  I am interested in sharing with other ladies who would be willing to introduce themselves to me and I to them between now and then; hopefully before the end of Oct when the price goes up, even sooner before fares go up. Jo Dee Preston   jodeepreston@verizon.net

Dear 50 States Marathon Club:
Hello! My name is Elise Allen, a television writer and the author of The Traveling Marathoner: A Complete Guide to Top U.S. Races and Sightseeing on the Run (which features none other than Steve and Paula Boone), and I could use your help.   I'm currently working on a documentary about women from different life circumstances who have met and bonded during marathon training.  This won't be a documentary about running, per se, but about these women and their relationships: think Sex and the City, but centered on marathoners.  I'm hoping I might find my subjects from among your group.  My goal is to find a group of four or five women; women who likely would never have crossed paths in daily life, but who have become friends as they shared hour after hour on their long runs.  Some types on my wish list include an "empty nester" in her 50's, taking on the marathon as a way to reinvent herself; a struggling 20-something tackling the marathon in hopes of losing weight; a highly driven, successful woman in her late 30's or early 40's, so busy she barely has time to breathe, but continually conquers marathons to add to her many accomplishments; and a stay-at-home-mom who dedicates herself entirely to her family, and relies on running as her main source of "me" time.  In addition, I'm very intrigued by family members who run together, be they mother/daughter or sisters.  Naturally, these ideal types are only starting points, and I'm very open to whatever I might find.  If you or someone you know is intereste, please send an email to EliseAllen@aol.com , and include your story and a picture.  Thanks so much! I look forward to hearing from you soon!  All the best, Elise Allen

Jean Evansmore
was featured in the Baltimore Sun in an article about her upcoming 50 state finish in Alaska.  (article)

Brendan Cournane
was featured on the "Someone You Should Know" feature of his local news for his completion of the 50 states.  (video)

With one state to go on his quest to complete the states,
Terry Crapanzano was featured in his local paper, the Hammond Star. (article)

Our sympathies go out to
Charles Sayles on the passing of his brother, Edward, on 7/28/08.  Edward joined Charles in running several marathons.

Susan Daley
won a free entry into the Twin Cities Marathon at a silent auction and now can't go.   If you would like the certificate for free entry, please contact Susan Daley at sdaley@perkinscoie.com.   Certificate must be used by August 1st or it expires.

We're sad to hear about the passing of
Donald Lang.   He was a 50 state marathoner for many years and one of our charter members.   He completed the states four times and also completed the Australian states and the Canadian provinces.  He had completed over 400 marathons.  He passed away in early May.  If you'd like to share stories with his family, please contact Kerry Belles at sagree1@yahoo.com

Ann Singer was featured in an interview about her upcoming completion of the 50 states.  (interview)

Boonsom Hartman
was recognized by the Illinois General Assembly for her accomplishment of completing two marathons in each of the 50 states.  Congratulations Boonsom. (resolution)

Michael Goolkasian
is running his 50th state in the marathon portion of the Couer d'Alene Ironman in honor of his friend Tim Chesko. (article)

Lauri Fauerbach-Adams
was featured on a radio program with Endurance Planet.  (broadcast)

Ken Hart
was recognized for his upcoming 50th state finish at Grandma's Marathon on 6/21/08.  (article)

Dave Bell
completed his 200th marathon at Steamboat on 6/1/08.  (article)

Our thoughts and prayers go out to
Jerry Dunn on the passing of his mother in April.

Michael Goolkasian
is featured in an article about his upcoming 50 states finish at the Ironman Coeur d'Alene next month. (article)

Eddie Hahn
was featured in an article about his 100th marathon at the Country Music Marathon. (article)

Holly Koester
is featured on Cheerios boxes. (video)   (article)

50 States Marathon Club member Jack Strausman is featured front and center in the photo accompanying the May Runner's World article on the Zoom! Yah! Yah! Marathon pg 119.  (Thanks for the info Rob Toonkel)

Jay has listed schedules which will allow you to do marathons in every state and DC without having to do two marathons on any weekend.  "This began as an exercise to satisfy my own curiosity.  It was so much work that I have decided to publish it.  I have no plans to attempt this but hopefully it will help someone who might actually be able to do this."

---- Invitations to our members ----
I’d like your help in promoting my autobiography, Running through My Mind: Confessions of an Every Day Runner.   After 105,000+ miles and (literally) running every day for over 28 years, I think I’ve managed to compile the complete book of running.  From Peachtree to Boston to a ‘run across Georgia’ to 24-hour endurance runs to Badwater to Western States—I’ve managed to taste a little bit of everything running has to offer in my quest to cover the spectrum in my running career (which is still going strong, by the way).  I would appreciate it if you would forward this to the members of your running club as well as anyone else you believe might be interested or in need of a little motivation, a little inspiration, and a whole lot of entertainment.  Thanks in advance for your support.  -Scott Ludwig  Available now on www.amazon.com  100% of author royalties will be donated to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association in memory of the author's parents.

11/2/08  I thought maybe you could help me out with this.  The City of Manchester Marathon in NH asked if I could find experienced runners who would be able to lead pace groups.  Sub 3, 3:10, 3:20, and so on up.  If you know of anyone who would be interested, please contact me.  Laura Bleakley   laurableakley@yahoo.com
